March 2010. Dr. Joachim Heck will succeed Dr. Olaf Stange as Managing Director of Ehrfeld Mikrotechnik BTS GmbH effective March 1, 2010. Stange will become the head of the new Southeast Asia regional office of Bayer Technology Services (BTS) in Singapore effective that same date.

After earning his degree in process engineering from Karlsruhe University of Applied Science and his PhD from Technical University, Dortmund, Heck began his professional career in 1987 as a development engineer in the process development department of Hoechst AG in Frankfurt. After holding several managerial positions in production and process development, he joined Aventis Research & Technologies GmbH as a business manager in 1997, and from 1999 served as production manager of the Chemicals business unit of Axiva GmbH. Following its integration into Siemens AG, he held a variety of management functions in the Process Development unit. Since 2008, Heck has served as unit manager and a member of the management team at Resources Technologies Management GmbH based in Frankfurt.

February 2010. Ehrfeld Mikrotechnik BTS (EMB), a Bayer Technology Services company, and Lonza signed a worldwide manufacturing and distribution license agreement together with a cooperation and development agreement on the Lonza microreactor technology. Under the terms of the agreements, EMB will acquire a license from Lonza on two key products: the Lonza Development Microreactor (process development) and Lonza Advanced Production Microreactors (manufacturing). As a result, EMB will become the exclusive worldwide manufacturer, vendor, and distributor of Lonza microreactors. Lonza microreactors are the most advanced reactor technology for numerous chemical syntheses based on micro-structured devices. The technology recently won the prestigious Swiss Sandmeyer prize for industrial chemistry and the Profile in Sustainability award from Informex. Lonza and EMB also agree to further develop the product via the cooperation and development agreement.

September 2008. Ehrfeld Mikrotechnik BTS GmbH (EMB), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Bayer Technology Services GmbH, has concluded an exclusive world-wide license agreement with Mingatec GmbH for the marketing and manufacture of novel miniaturized heat exchangers and reactors. The heat exchangers based on patented Miprowa® technology have a substantially greater heat transfer capacity, are significantly less sensitive to fouling and are easier to clean than conventional apparatus. This field-proven technology supplements the EMB portfolio of microstructured apparatus and modules for laboratory and technical service center facilities, and in particular in the high throughput range of several tons of product per hour for production operations.

July 2008. Ehrfeld Mikrotechnik BTS GmbH (EMB), a subsidiary of Bayer Technology Services GmbH, and Xytel Inc. have signed a production and marketing agreement to introduce innovative microreaction technology in pilot plants for the oil & gas, chemical and pharmaceutical industries. Modular microreaction systems by EMB increase the flexibility and performance of pilot plants, which are widely used to open new reaction routes and to reduce energy and raw material consumption.
